I have served on the Board since 2003. My current term expires
in 2011. During my tenure on the Board of Education I have served
as Trustee, Secretary and now as President. I serve on committees
such as Negotiation and Personnel, Elementary School Improvment
Team and District School Improvment Team.
I live in Maple River township and graduated from Littlefield
School. I have been married for 21 years to my husband Glenn "Sam"
Smith and we have two daughters. Kalce is 14 (currently a freshman)
and Karly is 11 (currently a 6th grader). Both children have always
been students at Pellston.
I decided to serve on the Board of Education because I wanted
to be more involved in my children’s education and I also
wanted to become more knowledgeable about our school district’s
operations. I have always felt a great sense of pride by being
involved in our school whether it be volunteering or serving on
our board.
I have been actively involved in the Pellston PTO since 1998.
I resigned as PTO president in September 2007 due to my time commitment
as school board president, but will remain involved as much as
possible. I am also glad to have been a part of a board who achieved
the energy savings heating/cooling upgrades to our schools--I
wonder today where we would have been, had we not decided to go
for it.
My greatest challenge while serving on Pellston Public Schools'
Board of Education has been trying to keep strong programs for
our school when the funding in tight. Another challenge has been
understanding that I may be viewed differently by some in the
community, while I only see myself as a caring parent and community
member. It is a great joy to work with our superintendent, Bill
Tebbe, and the rest of the board members.
My greatest goal for Pellston Public Schools is to strive for
improvements in our district each and every year and to work even
harder to help make that happen.
My personal interests include spending time with my family and
our dog, working and creating things with my hands and reading
a good book. |
